How to get to Nozawa Onsen

Nozawa Onsen is about 300 Km North-West from Tokyo and accessible viapublic transport or private bus. The Shinkansen, or high speed “Bullet Train”,
is the fastest and most comfortable option, but a private bus service can be organized from Narita airport if you don’t wish to travel by train.

Shinkansen + Bus Time Table

Booking a private bus/taxi service directly to Nozawa Onsen from Narita airport is the simplest option. Guests will be met in the Taxi zone of Terminal 1 by the driver. This is a Door-to-Door
service. Travel time is approximately six hours. This service is only available from Narita Airport. not Tokyo or surrounding areas.
We can make the necessary bookings once flight details and bookings are finalised.

Narita Express, Shinkansen & bus

Catching the Shinkansen (high speed train) is probably the fastest way of travelling between Tokyo and Iiyama. After transferring to Tokyo station from Narita airport (approximately one
hour), a high speed train called a Shinkansen will take you all the way to Iiyama. This part of the journey takes approximately two hours. A connecting bus from Iiyama to Nozawa Onsen village takes you the remainder of the way.

(Please check bus availability with us via email if you would prefer to take this route. The bus only connects with certain Shinkansen and Option 3 may be a faster option).



JOURNEY DETAILS:
Narita Airport to Tokyo Station

The Narita Express will take you into Tokyo station before you change trains to the Shinkansen. Tickets, through to Iiyama, can be purchased at this time.

The ticket office is inside the arrivals terminal, near the entrance to the train station.

The trip from Narita to Tokyo uses reserved seating so please find your appropriate carriage before boarding the train to save on confusion. This trip takes about an hour.



(JR Rail pass holders need not purchase the Shinkansen section of the ticket.) Shinkansen Tokyo to Iiyama

Once in Tokyo Station, make your way to the Shinkansen platforms. Trains depart approximately every hour.

Iiyama-Nozawa Village Bus Service

A connecting local bus service departs from directly outside Iiyama Station and ends at Nozawa Onsen. Directions to the bus zone are clearly labelled inside Iiyama station. This service stops at two points in Nozawa. The first stop is an easy five minute walk to Kiriya.
Please see village map for directions. The second and final stop of the route is slightly further away, but is more suitable if you prefer to be collected by one of our vehicles.
Pickup can be organised if we know your arrival time in advance.



Shinkansen & Bus from Tokyo

Catching the Shinkansen (high speed train) is probably the fastest way of travelling betweenTokyo and Iiyama. The journey takes approximately two hours and a connecting bus from Iiyama to Nozawa Onsen village another 25min.

Shinkansen Tokyo to Iiyama

Shinkansen Tickets can be purchased at Tokyo Station on the day of departure and trainsleave approximately every hour. Japan rail passes can be used to secure the Shinkansen ticket.


Iiyama-Nozawa Bus Service

A connecting local bus service departs from directly outside Iiyama Station (Chikumagawa-Exit) and ends at Nozawa Onsen. Directions to the bus zone are clearly labelled inside Iiyama station. This service stops at two points in Nozawa. The last stop is an easy five minute walk to Kiriya.
